The Placer County Museum is proud to announce the opening of our newest exhibit: What Killed the American Hat?

There used to be a time when going out without a hat in public was like going out without shoes. But by the 1960’s hats fell out of fashion and were no longer a necessary part of every woman’s outfit. So why are hats no longer in fashion?

Try your hand at solving this mystery by visiting our new exhibit, which includes an extensive collection of 1940’s -1960’s women’s hats. Examine the evidence, leaf through eyewitness testimony and identify a suspect.

You are invited to attend the “hat-optional” opening reception on April 27th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The museum is located on the first floor of the historic Courthouse at 101 Maple Street in Auburn.

The museum is open every day except holidays 

from 10:00 to 4:00 and admission is FREE!
